Kwama Community Center

A Space for Daily Life, Digital Access, and Shared Growth in Western Rural Sierra Leone

In the Western Rural District of Sierra Leone, construction is already underway on a space the community has long imagined, the Kwama Community Center: a vibrant, multi-use gathering place where people can connect, learn, access essential services, and strengthen the bonds that carry daily life.

This is more than a building—it’s a future in progress. But to bring that future to life before the end of 2025, we need your help to finish what we’ve started.

$188,000 Raised So Far

Thanks to the generosity of early supporters and the commitment of local partners, we’ve already raised $188,000 toward construction and land purchase. That investment has helped us:

  • Secure and prepare land purchased with the community
  • Lay the foundation and raise structural walls
  • Begin roofing and interior framing
  • Install a a partial small solar power and water access system for the interim
  • Purchase backup generators and power
  • Employ 80-100 community trade workers each month who support their families
  • Build local excitement and co-design programming with youth and elders alike

Now we face a critical window: $450,000 is still needed to complete the build and launch operations before the end of 2026.

Why Kwama, Why Now?

Kwama has long needed a central space for adult learning, digital access, and community connection. Currently, residents walk miles to charge devices, use the internet, or attend gatherings. Social events and educational programs are limited by distance, access, and the absence of shared infrastructure entraps over 7,000 nearby residents.

This center is the first of its kind in the area, and the community is ready. What’s needed now is the final push.

What We’re Building Together

The Kwama Community Center will offer:

  • 📚 Adult learning and skills-building workshops
  • 🌐 Wi-Fi access for education, job seeking, and entrepreneurship
  • 🔌 Charging stations powered by solar energy
  • 🎥 Large-screen projector for movie nights, public events, and informational programming
  • 🫱🏽‍🫲🏿 A social hub for youth groups, community forums, and intergenerational exchange

It’s a space designed to grow with the community—and one that reflects their voice from blueprint to bricks.

What Your Support Will Fund

To meet our goal of completing construction and opening by early 2026, we need to raise $450,000 for:

  • Final construction work (roofing, finishes, accessibility features)
  • Solar installation and electrical systems
  • Furniture, fixtures, and equipment
  • Wi-Fi and communication infrastructure
  • Program launch support and local staffing

A Space That Sustains Itself

This center won’t sit idle—it’s built for daily use, long-term programming, and community stewardship. Programming will include:

  • Digital literacy and entrepreneurship
  • Health education and civic engagement
  • Evening gatherings, weekend events, and youth-led initiatives
  • Local business support and public access resources

The space will be managed locally with input from village leadership, youth reps, and partner organizations—ensuring it remains responsive and rooted.
